The neonatal diabetes mellitus (NDM) appears in the first months of life. We distinguish the transient form (TNDM) from the persistent form (PNDM). Both combined the frequency in the European population is not higher than 1:400.000.

For PNDM several causing genes are known, the most important ones are KCNJ11 and GCK. Around 50 % of all PNDM cases are due to mutations in the KCNJ11-gene. From this form patients respond well to sylfonyl urea drugs whereas the GCK form is insulin dependant.

Our offer for molecular biological analysis sustains an early and save therapy decision of the treating physician.
